"Whither is God?" he cried; "I will tell you. We have killed him---you and I. All of us are his murderers.”- The Parable of the Madman - Friederic Nietzsche

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good.”- Psalms 53:1 ESV

One of the most quoted and misunderstood quotes of all time has come from Friederic Nietzsche; “God is dead”. In his “Parable of the Madman”, many believed that he was sharing that God doesn’t exist. However this isn’t what he is saying, but rather that he believed that humans had created God and/or religion to have order and purpose but that now there is no need for a God and/or religion in a developed world. That people would fall into three categories:

  1. Create order, purpose, and understanding without a God and/or established religion.

  2. Live without purpose and spiral into chaos.

  3. Live in the shadows of God's death in foolish religion.

To many, the idea of living a life by Nietzsche’s teaching seems very logical, as those who claim God or gods exist, constantly bring pain, division, and confusion. Many of us have heard about God or gods but struggle to believe that such a being or beings could be real, especially since those who claim to believe in them, can be so evil. Many of us wonder why such a being would care about humans and our affairs anyway. What proof is there to convince us of God’s existence and why should we even care? Who is to say that this God is good or worth following anyway?

I’ve wrestled with faith, morality, and meaning for many years and I still do. I say this to explain that where I am in life is not due to blind faith and obedience in what I was raised in or have chosen to believe. But rather to explain to you that I have asked these questions myself and continually ask more. But as I was praying and having conversation with the Lord, I felt led to show you how someone who has gone on this journey of questioning whether God is real or not, has come to their own conclusion. Not with the intention to convince you out of your perspective but rather to show you mine and let you decide for yourself along your journey.

For the next few months I invite you to join me as I share with you how I came to the final conclusion of whether God is real or if God is truly dead, what does the answer mean for us, and the next steps in our journey with our questions. The posts will be divided into the three points of which convinced me:

  1. Spiritually

  2. Historically

  3. Logically

I am not here to convince you, I am here as a model. If you are convinced like I was, hallelujah, but if not I understand. Hopefully my journey can help you or someone you love who is on this journey as well. At the end of this short existence that we have, what do you have to lose?
