Dear Suicidal Christian,
This is my letter to you who are thinking or have thought of taking your own life, to remind you that you aren’t alone and suicide isn’t the answer. I’m not here to tell you that you need to “pray more, believe your word, or get a deliverance”. You may need all of those things and more, but more importantly, you need someone in your corner. You may be thinking you can do it by yourself, but you can’t. I don't care how tough, stubborn, or strong you think you are, you will break.
I know because I broke several times. I can tell you where it happened, how I was going to end it, and what my reasoning was. I can show you the rope I was prepared to use, the gun I had chosen, and the knife sharpened for the job. Don’t believe the lie that suicide is your freedom from the pain, the fear, and the burden you may feel. The voices that you hear saying “just do it”, “get it over with”, or even “no one will notice”, are ALL LIES!
They are not the truth that stands true! Your absence makes the world not only a darker place, but one missing a beautiful smile, a joyous laugh, a warm embrace, and a sweet smell of love. If you knew the depth of what you mean to those you love and those that will love you, you wouldn’t even consider these intrusive thoughts. You are beloved by the maker of the universe, the one who holds your tears, and mourns your pain. He has not abandoned you, and neither will I.
I love you, Jesus loves you, and everyone around you loves you! You are not alone and if you need someone to listen to, tell a friend, a family member, or even me. We love that you’re here and you are not a burden to any of us. Remember these words from God Himself,
“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
If you or a loved one is struggling with suicide, please speak up! You can save your own life or the life of another! Below are some tools for you or your loved one to get some help. Remember, you matter and we don’t want to lose you. Even if you aren’t currently suicidal but you have recently entertained the idea, please speak up! Counseling, prayer, and getting medication are all good things, don’t neglect any of these. All are God given, and all are here to help.
Sincerely,
A former suicidal Christian.
